The City of Orange is proud to announce a new pilot program that makes recycling more accessible and convenient to residents than ever before.

Recycle From Home™ is a brand new program that PICKS UP and PAYS residents for their recyclable cans and bottles! Inspired by 13-year-old recycling superstar Ryan Hickman, this program makes it incredibly easy for Orange residents to recycle right from their driveway or doorstep! No more loading up the car with boxes or bags of cans and bottles in search of a redemption center. Collection bags and QR code tracking labels are provided to you to sort your CA CRV aluminum cans, plastic, and glass bottles.

Recycle From Home schedules drivers to pick up at a designated time that you select, and your items are recycled within 24 hours of pick up. Your recycled items are weighed, redemption is calculated based on current CA CRV rates and processed for payment. Your recycling redemption funds are then sent to you through Paypal, Venmo or as a mailed check.

Multifamily dwelling units of five or more are required to provide recycling containers that are visible, accessible, and adjacent to each trash container. Starting January 1, 2020, your existing green yard trimmings cart will become an organics cart and you are encouraged to recycle your kitchen food scraps with your yard trimmings. Your current service day will not change.

CR&R has affixed a new decal on your green yard trimmings cart to identify what materials are accepted in the new Organics Recycling Program. If the required decal was missed on your cart, please call (714) 372-8272 to have it added.

Household hazardous waste includes such items as paint, lawn chemicals, motor oil, solvents, batteries, sharps and needles, fluorescent bulbs, mercury thermometers, computer monitors, laptops and television sets. In February 2006, legislation went into effect that bans many electronic devices from the landfills, meaning it is illegal to dispose of these items in the trash. This includes such items as computers, keyboards, stereos, cell phones, cordless phones, VCRs, microwaves, calculators, electronic toys, game consoles, "singing" greeting cards, and athletic shoes and jewelry with flashing lights. Or visit one of three other centers in Orange County. The centers are open from 9 am to 3 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. They are closed on rainy days, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Your trash and recycling collector, CR&R Environmental Services provides a free bulky item collection program. Each City of Orange dwelling unit is entitled to four bulky item collections six times a year. That’s 24 items a year! Bulky items include large, hard-to-handle items such as furniture, appliances, computers, computer monitors, electronic waste, and extra yard waste. Residents in multi-family complexes with bin service may also have bulky item service available.

In order for you to reserve a bulky item collection date, contact CR&R at (714) 372-8272. Once your bulky item collection has been reserved, place your bulky item out for collection on your regularly scheduled trash collection day. To properly dispose of your used motor oil at one of Orange's certified collection centers, search for the center nearest you at OC Health's website. It is a good idea to call the collection center to verify their hours and make sure they are able to accept your used oil. This program is funded by a grant from CalRecycle and administered by Orange County Health Care Agency.
