The Crime Prevention Unit of the Orange Police Department takes part in every aspect of the development process including staff review, plan check, and on-site inspections. Crime Prevention is the anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk, and the initiation of action to remove or reduce it. Crime Prevention is an active approach utilizing public awareness and preventive measures to reduce crime. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is the implementation of design and effective use of the built environment to reduce opportunities for crime and facilitate activity and natural surveillance (open visibility) that support a physical environment that feels comfortable and safe for the people using it. It also strives to elevate the quality of life for residents and visitors.
