The purpose of the Golden Hub Awards program is to publicly highlight and commend local governments for developing and implementing innovative solutions to current challenges in municipal leadership. Awards were given to those cities and agencies whose programs best reflected the spirit of the Golden Hub.
The City of Orange winners include:
Orange Public Library – Category: Staffing and Service Delivery Due to the economic downturn, the Library was forced to reduce hours and staffing which limited the public's access to free resources. The City Council challenged the Library to expand hours and services to the community while using existing, much reduced financial resources. The Library’s management team developed a New Service Delivery Model, which embraced its community as volunteers and deployed them in nearly every service point in the library. This innovative approach successfully increased Library hours by 37.6% and History Center hours by 100%. In FY 12-13, four hundred thirteen adult and teen volunteers volunteered a total of 17,072 hours. The in-kind contribution from volunteers totaled $422,532 according to the Independent Sector’s report on the value of a volunteer’s time.
Orange Public Library – Category: Strategic Partnerships The "Show Your Orange Public Library Card and Save" program partners the Library with local businesses who agree to give discounts or offer perks to customers that show their library card. It was created by library staff in order to encourage people to shop locally, to support local businesses that would in turn support the Library, and to create community-wide awareness of the importance of having a free Orange Public Library Card.
