| Volunteer Program The Orange Police Department has adopted a philosophy of bringing the community into a partnership with the police. The use of dedicated volunteers is an obvious answer to accomplish this task. The O.P.D. Volunteer Program is staffed by many who now successfully handle tasks and responsibilities that were once part of a sworn officer's routine.
Our volunteers bring to us an expertise and desire to serve the community. The hours that are covered by the program are from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Each volunteer is required to donate a minimum of four hours a week. A complete background check precedes the "hiring" process. Once on board, each volunteer receives equipment and training necessary to perform his or her respective jobs. Examples of some of the duties performed by our volunteers are: - Kids Print
- Check on welfare of homebound citizens registered with the Orange Senior Citizen Center's "Meals on Wheels" Program through Y.A.N.A. (You Are Not Alone).
- Assist with the Department's Citizen's Police Academy.
- Greeting the public in the lobby.
- Performing "vacation checks."
- Provide clerical support.
