C.O.A.R. Mission Statement
The City of Orange Amateur Radio Volunteer Program has been established to aid emergency personnel in the delivery of communications related services to the citizens of Orange.

Goals
Provide technical support, staffing and consultation in planning and maintenance of radio equipment.

Objectives
Work in conjunction with the community oriented policing philosophy, management style, and organizational strategy that promotes a pro-active problem solving and community partnership.

Duties of the C.O.A.R. Volunteers

Volunteer radio operatorProvides technical support and consulting in planning, maintenance, and operation of the radio systems under both normal and emergency operations utilizing the Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.) of the Orange Police Department. Assist with preparation and organization of the E.O.C. for emergency activations. Also assists with the operations and maintenance of all amateur radio equipment (i.e., HF, VHF/UHF, packet, and ATV), and training other volunteers. Assist with establishing communications with Federal, State and County agencies, R.A.C.E.S., Red Cross, and other amateur network stations during E.O.C. activation, disasters, major incidents and drills. Some lifting of equipment is required.

Qualifications
Licensed amateur radio operator, valid driver's license and insurance, able to drive small/mid-size van and/or car. Familiarization with the City is helpful. Satisfactory completion of Defensive Driving Course and Communication Training with police handheld radio and cellular telephone provided by staff. Able to read City and Department's Reporting District (R.D.) maps.

Hours
On-call/flexible, some evenings and weekends (times vary based on emergency or E.O.C. activation).
