Records Bureau

The Records Bureau joins the Department's team of professionals and makes an important contribution to the delivery of services to the community. It maintains and protects the integrity of the thousands of crime reports and records in our files. All of our computerized files must be available for instant recall of accurate data. The Bureau must comply with state and federally mandated regulations and procedures to assure the confidentiality of individual matters.

Services are provided around the clock, seven days a week. When the Department's business lines are called, it is Records' job to lend assistance.

To obtain a copy of your report:

To purchase a copy of your report there are a few steps to follow.

If you request your report by mail:

  1. Please send a written request with your case number.
  2. Include a photo copy of your driver license or identification card along with a check or money order made out to the "City of Orange" in the amount listed below.
  3. Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. A transaction receipt will be returned to you with the report.

If you choose to come to the station to pick up a copy of your report, we will need to see your driver's license or identification card.

The cost to obtain a copy of a report is $20.00 for crime, information and traffic accident reports.

Fingerprinting services:

We print by appointment only. Please call (714) 744-7380 to schedule for an appointment. Our fingerprinting hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fees for the first print card is $12.00, and additional careds are $6.00. Live Scan prints are $12.00 and must have the six digit billing number on the Live Scan form.

Vehicle Releases:

To obtain a vehicle release you must present a current valid drivers license and current registration. If you do not have a valid drivers license you must bring someone with you that does. You must be the registered owner or have notarized authorization from the registered owner to obtain a release. The fee for a vehicle release is $40.00. There will be no fees for a vehicle release if the vehicle is a recovered stolen. You can obtain a vehicle release during our normal business hours.

If your vehicle is stored pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 14602.2 then your vehicle will be held for 30 days in impound. You have a right to a hearing to determine the validity of the impound. You must respond in writing, by phone, or in person to schedule a hearing within 10 days of the date of your notice. A hearing can be scheduled by calling a Traffic Sergeant at (714) 744-7351 or (714) 744-7448. For other information regarding your vehicle you may call the Records Bureau at (714) 744-7390.

At the conclusion of the 30-day impound period, you will be required to obtain a vehicle release from the Police Department. The fee for 30-day vehicle impound release is $150.00.  You will be required to present a driver with a valid driver's license and current registration for the vehicle.
