The Shades of Orange: El Modena Collection broadens the representation of City of Orange communities in the library’s local history collection. Established in 1887, El Modena is dynamic part of the City of Orange, with its colorful neighborhoods, businesses, and families. The collection consists of historic photographs and stories shared by former and current residents of El Modena. To view these historic photographs please visit the local history website http://www.cityoforange.org/localhistory and click on Digital Collection.
Special thanks to the community of El Modena, who shared their photographs and their stories with the Orange Public Library & History Center. Dedication of the collection was sponsored by the Orange Community Historical Society, Old Towne Preservation Association, Taco Adobe, and Felix Continental Cafe; we thank them for their donations. We are also grateful to Rudy Diaz, Charlene Riggins, and Sam Rodriguez who established the El Modena Community Historical Committee (EMCHC), which seeks to collect and honor the history of El Modena, and helped to bring about the El Modena Veterans Project.
