Homebound Delivery Service

Our Books Make House Calls

The Orange Public Library offers a free Homebound Delivery Service, which brings library materials to City of Orange residents who cannot get to the library.  The service is based on one-to-one contact between the individual who is homebound, and the volunteer who selects and delivers the materials.

What Materials are Available?

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Music & Instructional CDs
  • Books on CD
  • Large Print books
  • Foreign language materials
  • DVD’s

Who is Eligible for Service?

  • Elderly
  • Chronically Ill
  • Handicapped
  • Temporarily ill or injured

Materials are selected based on each homebound patron’s interests based on an initial interview by the Homebound Delivery Service Coordinator.

What do Volunteers Do?

Select and deliver materials for each homebound patron based on their interest profile from the initial interview.

Volunteers are positive, cheerful, enthusiastic and patient people.  Their contacts with homebound patrons provide vital links of friendship and service.  The volunteer and homebound patron set up a delivery schedule that is convenient for both of them.  Volunteers give their own time (about four hours a month is average) to serve the homebound.  Because volunteers are asked to use their own vehicles in making deliveries a current California driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.  Mileage expenses are tax deductible as a charitable donation, according to the federal tax code.

The Homebound Delivery Service Coordinator stays in touch with volunteers and homebound patrons to ensure the most effective operation of the program.

How to Receive Homebound Delivery Service
