Fire Explorer Post 547

WHAT IS EXPLORING?

The Explorer Program is a vocationally oriented division of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) that is open to young people ages 15-21  (may be fourteen with completion of the 8th grade) who are interested in exploring future career opportunities. The posts are sponsored and run by public and private organizations and companies. The organizations provide a meeting place and the skilled advisors to run the post. Sponsoring organizations include police and fire departments, computer companies, aerospace and aviation firms, search and rescue organizations, and sea posts, among others. In fact, there are twelve different career fields to choose from in the Exploring Program.  For more information on the City of Orange Fire Department Explorer Post, please continue reading. ORANGE FIRE DEPT EXPLORER POST 547

Explorer Post 547 is a fire service post sponsored by the Orange City Fire Department.  Established in 1968, it was formed to help young people who had aspirations of becoming firefighters obtain invaluable work experience. Through classroom sessions, manipulative drills, and a ride-along program, members through the years have been encouraged and guided towards their goals. Currently, the post has four adult advisors who all are full-time employees of the Orange City Fire Department. They donate their time to mentor the members of the post, and to help them obtain their goals. The post is currently comprised of thirty-six members, including four members elected by their peers to officer-level positions. The four elected officer positions are President, Vice-president , Treasurer, and Secretary. The positions are up for election every year.  Six other members are assigned to captain positions. The captains are responsible for four to eight other explorers. The chain of command is observed within the post, consistent with the leadership philosophy of the national BSA Fire Exploring program.
