Training Captain - Michael Diersing

Captain Mike Diersing is the staff captain assigned as the Training Officer for the department. His primary responsibility is to develop, coordinate and implement all fire department training. He also is the department’s safety officer. Mike started his career as a Firefighter with the City of Orange in 2002.  He became a Paramedic in 2005, and in 2011 was promoted to an Engineer Paramedic.  In October 2012 Mike was promoted to Fire Captain. As a Captain, he has served on the training engine and most recently was assigned to the truck company where he also served as the Captain on the Urban Search and Rescue unit (US&R).

Mike has multiple college degrees, including:  A Bachelor of Science in Occupational Studies from Cal State Long Beach, three Associate Degrees from Santa Ana College in Fire Administration, Fire Technology Medical Services and Public Fire Services.  He received his EMT-Paramedic Certificate from Saddleback College, and holds his Firefighter I and II, US&R, Fire Officer and Engine Boss Certifications through the State Fire Training, along with having completed several other training courses.  As a Paramedic, Mike was a Paramedic Preceptor. Mike was previously Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator, of which his responsibilities include managing UASI Grant Funds, he was the department’s Terrorism Liaison Officer Coordinator, assisting with the city’s Emergency Operations Center and managing the department’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) safety equipment.  Additionally, Mike participates on the Fire Department Research & Development Committee and Safety Committee. In 2010, Mike received the “Hero with a Heart” award from the Trauma Intervention Program (TIPS), for going above and beyond the call of duty to provide compassionate support to citizens in crisis.
