The Orange City Fire Department is one of the twelve departments of the City of Orange, California. The City is located in northern Orange County near to the east of Disneyland in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. Last year, the Department responded to over 11,000 incidents. Training is delivered both in-house and as part of the North Net Joint Powers Agreement with Anaheim and Garden Grove Fire Departments. Dispatch services are provided by Metro Cities Fire Authority, commonly known as “Metronet.”
Firefighters are assigned to eight fire stations. Those stations contain eight fire engines, one truck company, three rescue ambulances and a chief’s buggy. The 108 suppression personnel are augmented by 18 staff and administrative personnel to total 126 employees. Those personnel provide a full range of emergency response and prevention functions to the residents, businesses and visitors to the City of Orange. The community presents many potential emergencies for which the suppression personnel have to prepare. The demographics of the community include the following:
·Low, medium and high-density residential neighborhoods ·High rise buildings ·Freeways ·Seasonal waterways, including the Santa Ana River and Santiago Creek ·Wildland-Urban interface ·Industrial and commercial districts
To prepare for response to these areas, the firefighters spend much of their time training in the following areas and many others: ·Emergency Medical Response ·Structural firefighting ·Urban search and rescue (US&R) ·Rope rescue and shoring ·Trench rescue ·Confined space rescue ·Swift water rescue ·Terrorism ·Multi-casualty incidents ·Hazardous materials incidents ·Wildland firefighting ·High rise firefighting ·Auto extrication ·Flammable liquids firefighting
