The Orange City Fire Department was formed in 1905, almost exclusively to fight fire. Today, firefighters provide a wide array of services to the community, including pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation, urban search and rescue (US&R), hazardous materials first response, terrorism first response, fire and life safety inspections...and yes, we still fight fires. Please read on for a few highlights of the services we provide:

Modern emergency medicine demands prompt, effective care with rapid transport. The Orange City Fire Department provides paramedic, EMT and ambulance service with an integrated Paramedic/transportation system. This system combines paramedic-assessment-unit engine companies with paramedic-staffed rescue ambulances to comprise paramedic teams. This allows the fire department to provide advanced pre-hospital life support to residents, businesspeople, and visitors in less time than required when providing the care with the traditional advanced life support delivery system. In addition, situations where rapid transport is necessary (e.g. trauma, drownings) receive the fastest possible code-3 transport to the hospital.

The Department also provides a trained Swiftwater Rescue team, and is able to respond anywhere in the county in a short period of time. Members of the Department trained in Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) partly comprise the Orange County Task Force 5 US&R Team, one of 13 operational Federal emergency Management Agency (FEMA) US&R teams in the United States.
