SUMMER ROAD TRIP 2008


Grab your luggage and get ready to have a fun-filled summer road trip you don't want to miss! Join the City of Orange Community Services Department for 10 weeks of summer day camp where you can sing camp songs, play sport/group games, create unique crafts, make friends and memories to last a lifetime! During the 10 week theme “SUMMER ROAD TRIP 2008,” you'll “visit” cities and states such as New York, Miami, New Orleans, Texas, Philadelphia, and many more!

Weekly activity schedules will be available at the sites, the Monday of each themed week. Camp doors are open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. General structured programming occurs between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please pack a lunch and additional snacks for the child's enjoyment.

Outgoing and enthusiastic Community Services Leaders provide opportunities for children to be creative, achieve self-expression, gain self-confidence and build team skills through recreation activities and group games. Community Service Leaders are trained in basic first aid and CPR. Staff to participant ratio is approximately one leader to 10 campers.

REGISTRATION:

Each week of day camp and each excursion have an assigned activity number. Patrons may register for as many weeks and excursions available. The entire day camp payment is due at time of registration. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-received basis. Day camp payments must be processed prior to participants arriving at camp site. Priority Mail-in/Fax-in begins Friday, May 9, 2008.

Parent packets will also be available at the time of walk-in registration. Participants will not be able to participate unless all forms are completed at the time of drop-off on the first day of the paid day camp week.

A payment confirmation will be mailed once payment has been received. Be sure to include preferred mailing address on registration form. General walk-in begins Wednesday, June 4, 2008.

DAY CAMPS

TEEN CLUB

Dates: 10 weeks, June 16, 2008 – August 22, 2008

FEES

10 week program, weekly fees apply:

$95 per week per participant for city residents, proof of residency is required

$57 for week 3 per participant for city residents, 3 days only – camps closed July 3 & 4

$110 per week per participant for non-city residents

$66 for week 3, per participant for city residents, 3 days only – camps closed July 3 & 4

EXCURSIONS

Only Handy, Shaffer and Teen Club summer day camp participants are eligible to attend excursions at an additional cost. Excursion participation is not mandatory. Shaffer day camp is open for all non-excursion participants. Bus times vary from week to week. Information is available during the program week of scheduled excursion at the summer day camp sites. Parents are encouraged to provide additional snacks and drinks for child's enjoyment, even if lunch is included for the day. Excursion payments must be processed by 5:30 p.m. the Thursday prior to the planned excursion. Price includes group ticket and bus fee.

VOLUNTEEN PROGRAM

Get involved in the City of Orange VolunTEEN program and make a difference! The program is an exciting 10 week opportunity designed for teenagers age 14-18 to gain a memorable experience assisting with youth program summer day camps in a recreation environment. Responsibilities include assisting with the planning of each summer program week, crafts, sport/group games, activities and special events.

VolunTEENs will earn community service hours, enhance recreation job skills and gain a rewarding experience in the City of Orange community. Positions are limited and VolunTEENs are placed only at Handy and Shaffer Park day camps. Placement is based on availability and program needs. All Applications are due by Wednesday, May 21, 2008.
