Lifeguard Training- 3 Days, $150
If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard then this training class is designed for you! The City of Orange offers a unique program to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion, students will receive certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (including First Aid) and American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Participants must be 15 years or older.

Lifeguard Training is a required certification for City of Orange Lifeguard/ Swim Instructors.
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course- 4 Days, $150
This class is designed for those interested in becoming a Water Safety Instructor! The City of Orange offers a unique program to certify aquatics enthusiasts to instruct swimming lessons. Participants must be 16 years or older and certified in lifeguard training. Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Red Cross WSI certification. Participants must be 16 years or older.

Online registration is available for Hart Park Swim lesson participants. To register online for swim lessons log on to www.cityoforange.org and select “online class registration.” Online registrations are subject to a non-refundable convenience fee of $2.75 + 3%, per transaction. This fee will appear with the activity fee at the point of payment. Payments may be made with a Mastercard or Visa credit cards only. Your credit card statement will show payment to the City of Orange. Online registration is easy, fast, convenient, and provides immediate enrollment confirmation. So avoid long lines or missed openings due to mail delays and register online today!
Swim and Save!
Purchase a prepaid “Swim Card” for recreational swim at Hart Park Pool for $28. This card allows you to swim for 15 sessions for the price of 10 sessions!Beginning Monday, May 16, 2011, swim cards will be available for purchase at the Community Services Department, located at 230 E. Chapman Ave., Orange, 92866.The Community Services Department office hours are: Monday-Thursday and various Fridays, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.Swim cards also may be purchased at Hart Park Pool starting June 17, 2013 during pool hours.

Level 2: Primary Skills

Students learn the fundamentals of front crawl, back crawl, turning over while floating and water safety. This is a difficult level to pass. Most students repeat it twice.
Level 3: Stroke Readiness

Refinement of front and back crawl and endurance. New skills include elementary backstroke and front dives. It is best to have students repeat this class twice.
Level 4: Stroke Development

Refinement of all previous strokes. New skills include breaststroke, sidestroke and elements of the butterfly.
Level 5: Stroke Refinement

Refinement of all previous strokes including breaststroke and sidestroke. New skills include open turns and springboard diving.
Level 6: Stroke Refinement +

Refinement of all strokes, increased endurance and conditioning. Introduces students to competitive swimming.
Wondering which level to place your child?
If you answer “Yes” to four or five questions, then that level is appropriate for your child. If you answer “Yes” to three or less of the questions, then that level is inappropriate for your child. Try a lower level.

2.Can your child tread water for 2 minutes using any style of kick?
3.Can your child dive from the side of the pool in a standing position?
4.Can your child independently swim 10 yards of breaststroke?
5.Does your child use rotary breathing while swimming on his/her front?
Level Six
1.Can your child do an open turn at the wall on their back and front?
2.Can your child independently tread water for 3.5 minutes?
3.Can your child do a flip turn on their front and back to change direction at the wall?
4.Can your child swim continuously 100 yards freestyle with at least one flip turn at the wall?
5.Can your child do the dolphin kick for 25 yards?

El Modena High School Group Lessons are open for level 2 or higher swimmers, ages 3 and older, including adults. There is no age requirement for semi-private and private lessons.
Session Dates:
Sessions are two weeks and meet Monday – Friday for 25 minutes each.
Start date depends on meeting the minimum registration requirements. Time subject to change, please check ORCA’s Web site at www.orca-aquatics.com Participants must be able to swim two lengths (50 yards) of the pool freestyle while side breathing without stopping or assistance.
