| On-the House-Permits Program The “On-the-House-Permits” program will waive building plan review and permit fees for home improvement projects for a limited time this Spring. The goal of the program is to assist residents in tackling remodels, property improvements and to further enhance the city’s residential neighborhoods. *Please note: processing fees, planning fees and other agencies’ fees are still applicable. The second phase, from March 31 through May 15, 2008, is only for qualified Old Towne Orange residential projects. Due to the historic district designation, major structural and exterior façade improvements in the Old Towne area require Design Review Committee (DRC) approval. This review process can take up to four months. Applicants are encouraged to apply for DRC approval as early as possible. The “On-The-House-Permits” program applies to qualified home improvement / remodeling projects for property (single family, town homes and condominiums) built prior to January 2000. Examples of qualified projects include room additions, remodels, new roofs, block walls, pools and patios. During the program, homeowners can submit their improvement plans for city approval without paying building plan review and inspection fees.
