The City Clerk is the Custodian of Records for the City of Orange and the City’s Election Official responsible for all General Municipal and Special Elections.
The City Clerk’s primary responsibility is to accurately record the actions and proceedings of City Council meetings and Redevelopment Agency meetings; administer the City’s Records Management Program utilizing Optical Imaging Technology; maintain the City’s Municipal Code; administer regulations relating to the Fair Political Practices Commission, and provide research and information services to the public and City personnel. A current directory of City Boards, Commissions and Committees, their vacancies, and the regular meeting dates, is also maintained by the City Clerk’s office.
The Office is responsible for the coordination and preparation of City Council and Redevelopment Agency agendas. A complete City Council Agenda and Redevelopment Agency Agenda packet is available for review after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the Council/Agency meeting in the City Clerk's Office. It is also available on our website under City Council Agendas/Minutes.
A common misconception is that we also act as the County Clerk. For this reason, we have provided a direct link to the County of Orange for such matters as marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, fictitious business names and recordation of documents, and the Registrar of Voters.
The City Clerk's Office also handles the City Hotline, a 24-hour message service provided to residents and visitors. The hotline was created so that residents or visitors could leave a recorded message regarding concerns, complaints, comments or compliments about the City of Orange.
