Meetings: First and third Mondays of each month, 7:00 p.m., Council Chambers, 300 E. Chapman Avenue, Orange.
Desirable Qualifications: The Commission shall consist of five members who shall have their primary residence in the City.Commission members shall have general knowledge of land use and development.(Qualifications revised 8/22/06 per Resolution 10112).The duties are set forth in state law and Section 17.08.020 of the Orange Municipal Code.
Terms of Office: Four-year term.
General Duties: The Planning Commission a) makes land use decisions in accordance with State law, that are consistent with City’s General Plan goals and policies as formally adopted by the City Council; b) provides technical and advisory assistance to the City Council regarding land use matters; c) assists in formulating development policy; d) makes environmental assessments in accordance with CEQA provisions and the City’s Environmental Review Guidelines; e) hears and decides applications for conditional use permits, variances, major site plan reviews, negative declarations and appeals of administrative actions, decisions by the Zoning Administrator and Design Review Board; and f) makes recommendations to the City Council on applications for zone changes, tentative tract maps and environmental impact reports, and amendments to the City’s zoning ordinance and general plan.
California Government Code Section 87200 requires each member to file annual statements of economic interests.
